Tim Faulkner was awarded The Australian Geographic Conservationist of the Year Award in 2015 for his work in reversing the extinction rate of small mammals on the Australian mainland, through the reintroduction of Tasmanian devils to NSW via his 'Devil Ark' initiative.
Devil Ark is a series of two-six hectare enclosures in the Barrington Tops. Most enclosures hold four breeding pairs of devils – specifically selected for their important genetic diversity. There are also two enclosures that house the juveniles for one year after they have naturally weaned from their mother. While in their crèche, these teenagers learn how to become young devils.
If you would like more information on this program please visit the website or take a tour. Tours of Devil Ark are now available and run from September - May each year. Devil Ark is two hours drive from Scone, four hours from Newcastle and six hours from Sydney.
