Triclosan is used as a preservative in popular lipsticks; this substance has been linked to muscle and heart problems. Also, lead can comprise up to 3% of ingredients in some lipsticks, and some women can consume up to 15 kg of lipstick in their lifetimes.

Wearing makeup everyday is not always kind to our skin. Even if you use mineral or organic makeup, the skin still needs time to breathe and have a break from all that foundation, lipstick and mascara. Yet, stepping out bare-faced can spark a little fear and self-consciousness in many of us. But if you know how to look after your skin, it can glow all on it’s own.

If the thought still daunts you, why not join a whole host of other women going makeup free on Friday August 29. On this day, you won’t be alone in leaving those cosmetics on the dresser table for the day. Makeup Free Me is charity movement which aims to raise awareness of negative body image in Australia by asking women to go without their favourite cosmetic products for just one day.

We asked the founder of Kosmea natural skincare, Marie Jenkins, for her top tips to make sure your skin shines.

1. Prep with rosehip
Ensure you are preparing your skin well before the day! Oils are especially good for bringing back some glow to dry, winter skin, particularly rosehip oil. Apply daily and your skin will appear more hydrated, plump and soft. Over time, you’ll also find that it can even out skin tone, fine lines and hyperpigmentation.
Suggested product: Kosmea Certified Organic Rose
Hip Oil.

2. Hibiscus plump
If you’re concerned about going makeup free and would like to ensure your skin looks it’s firmest and plumpest on the day, try using a product with hibiscus extract both morning and night. It’s known as 'nature’s botox' for its ability to naturally firm the skin, fight free radicals and combat the signs of ageing.
Suggested product: Kosmea Eighth Natural Wonder Revitalising Facial Serum.

3. Keep hydrated
Make sure you keep your skin hydrated from the inside and out. As always, ensure you are drinking plenty of water (it' so goo for your skin!), and avoid too much alcohol and caffeine. Additionally, using a hydrating spritz toner can prevent skin from becoming dehydrated due to indoor heating and harsh winter climates. Throughout the day, a hydrating spritz can also give your skin a quick 'glowing' boost.
Suggested product: Kosmea Hydrating Rosewater Mist.

4. Cleanse it all away
Even though you won’t be wearing makeup on the 29th, it’s still very important to cleanse your skin at the end of the day to remove other dirt and impurities. A good cleansing routine will help improve your skin so you'll have every reason to be confident to go makeup free every day!
Suggested product: Kosmea Facial Cleansing Wipes.

Kosmea skincare-lovers can also help support the campaign by purchasing a bottle of the Certified Organic Rose Hip Oil (10mL & 20mL only) from www.kosmea.com.au up until September 7, 2014. Five per cent of all sales will go to Makeup Free Me to help the movement empower women and girls to develop and nurture positive self-image.
