To check whether your fridge seal is defective, place a strip of paper in the door jam, and shut the door. If you are able to pull the paper free without any resistance, it could do with a replacement.
Order a replacement seal, double-checking your fridge make and model.
Soak the seal in warm water to make it pliable.
Locate the screws or fasteners holding the existing seal. These should be beneath the edges of the door seal. (If your seal is held in place by adhesives instead of screws, simply remove and clean the doorframe before installing new seal.)
Remove fasteners from one side at a time, removing the old seal as you go. Thoroughly clean the doorframe.
Attach the new seal, starting from the top corner and smoothing down the sides. Make sure the seal is aligned before fixing in place.
Check for any inconsistencies with the same paper resistance test.
