With its action-packed sequences and thrilling plot, Pete Bethune’s narrative of joining the Sea Shepherd anti-whaling protest fleet wouldn’t be out of place in a Hollywood blockbuster.

After his boat Ady Gil was rammed, and later sunk, in the iceberg-dotted waters of the Antarctic in 2010, Bethune boarded the Japanese whaling ship responsible to present them with the bill for the damages.

He was arrested, and spent almost five months enduring daily interrogations in Tokyo – but Bethune believes this is a small price to pay for spotlighting the plight of the whales.
