In 1968, Yvon Chouinard (founder of Patagonia apparel) and Doug Tompkins (founder of The North Face and co-owner of Esprit) embarked on a legendary surf and ski tour from California to Argentina by van.

Inspired by their life-changing journey, adventurer Jeff Johnson follows in their footsteps 40 years later. After becoming ship-wrecked and taking an unexpected stopover at Easter Island, he meets his travel partner, Makohe. Here, Johnson also learns just how close humanity can linger on the precipice before an entire society can collapse.

Highlights of the film include the wildlife of the Galapagos Islands, Johnson surfing the longest wave of his life, and meeting Chouinard and Tompkins in a rustic hut in Patagonia.

Johnson's journey climaxes with a dangerous climb of the Corcovado volcano, Cerro Corcovado, where he has some cathartic realisations about his goals and dreams.
