Youth Food Movement Ride-On Lunch 2012

20 and 27 October

The Youth Food Movement Ride On Lunch is an event for foodies and greenies alike, as this bike ride takes riders through the inner city to meet food and sustainability champions. Currently in its third year, this year's theme is Food Love Stories. Riders are encouraged to get romantic about food by sharing and listening to food love stories.

The 100% waste free event will take around 60 riders on each day to several stops through Sydney, giving riders a chance to sample local food and gain sustainable ideas to take home.

In 2001 Brendt Barbur, Founding Director, was compelled to start the Bicycle Film Festival after being hit by a bus while riding his bike in New York City. He was inspired to turn this negative experience into a positive one, and created a festival that celebrates the bicycle through music, art, and of course, film. From its roots in New York City, the BFF has grown into a multi-faceted, global event that will travel to over 25 cities this year, from Milan to Tokyo, Minneapolis to Sydney. BFF 2011 showcases a stellar collection of short films, including LAST MINUTES WITH ODEN (winner of Vimeo’s Best Video Award), dramatic documentary about Oden’s struggle with cancer, BIKELORDZ: STUNTS AND STYLES FROM ACCRA, GHANA, showcasing a new interesting bike culture, and BIKE RACE, a bike animation that puts some of cycling’s greats head to head.

Around 400 dapper gents and fancy ladies dressed in Tweed riding vintage cycles will partake in an ambling and elegant ride around Sydney. The ride finishes in Alexandria with a picnic lunch and 'Tweed Games' - tea cup and saucer races. Prizes will be awarded to the best-dressed, best culinary delights and best couples' promenade.

Where: Meet at Town Hall 8am registration for 9am start.

I have a little confession to make: I'm a little bit scared to ride a bike. I know it's good for the environment, and for my health. It looks like fun. Heaps of people I know are doing it already. But... I'm nervous about doing it myself.
