Take action on climate change!

21-23 June, 2013
Put your concerns into action! You can help motivate communities to demand climate action at Australian Climate Action Summit this year. Over the two-day summit, you will have the opportunity to talk with successful campaigners about a clean energy future. The activist panel comes from all around Australia and across different sectors, including George Monbiot, Drew Hutton, Prof. Lesley Hughes, Cate Faehrmann MP, Fiona Armstrong, Simon Butler and Tony Mohr. Before the Summit, you may join the Friday night forum at the NSW Parliament House to discuss and explore community climate action through the law and media. The guest panel includes Michelle Maloney, Larissa Waters, Jane Rawson and Graham Readfearn.

Voiceless Animal Law

Voiceless Animal Law Lecture Series

Voiceless the Animal Protection Institute is hosting a series of animal law lectures around Australia. In its seventh year, the lecture series will spark discussion on the important relation of ethics and law. The nation’s leading legal minds will explore whether a legal voice through constitution and treaties for animals can make a difference. Internationally renowned lawyer Antoine F. Goetschel from Zurich will be the keynote speaker.

Environmental Lawyer, EDO-NQ

The Environmental Defenders Office of Northern Queensland (EDO-NQ) is a non-profit community legal centre specialising in environmental law in the public interest. EDO-NQ is the only regional Environmental Defenders Office within Australia, established in 1996 in recognition of the need for special protection of north Queensland’s fantastically biodiverse environment, encompassing two World Heritage Areas. EDO-NQ covers a large service area from Mackay, out west to Mt Isa, and north to the Torres Strait. As north Queensland’s environment is under pressure from urban expansion, agriculture, aquaculture, forestry, coastal development, roads and tourism there is a high demand from the community for legal assistance. The successful candidate is required to have a Bachelor Degree in Laws, be eligible for admission to practice as a Solicitor in Queensland and to a hold a practicing certificate pursuant to Queensland Law and the requirements of the Queensland Law Society. Sound research skills and a demonstrated ability to provide legal and casework services are also required.

Location: Cairns, Qld.
Salary: Employment is flexible and can be full time (38 hours/week) or part-time and is initially offered under a six month contract with a 1 month probationary period. Between the SCHCDS Level 4.2 to 5.1 $52,996 to $61,208, dependent upon skills and experience of the successful candidate.
