Solar boost

Friday, 9 December 2011

We are now witnessing what looks like an astonishing boom in renewables. More than 1 million Australians now live in homes powered by solar panels and the nation is on track to meet its target of a fifth of its energy from renewables by 2020. That’s a 35 fold increase in solar power.
Still, there is some way to go. Renewable energy generates only about 10 per cent of Australia's power but 80 per cent still comes from the burning of black and brown coal. And emissions are rising, suggesting we have to do a lot more work.
