Communications Adviser - Australian Conservation Foundation

The Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) is seeking a skilled communications professional with strong experience working with the media. You will have a flair for developing effective and creative public communication strategies that excel in a competitive environment. Your ability to access a range of media channels to influence people to take action will be integral to this role.

● Develop and implement public relations and media strategies that optimise awareness of ACF and its conservation goals.
● Write, edit and disseminate effective media communication materials, including media releases, background briefings, web content, articles, reports, speeches etc.
● Support ACF’s new cross-organisational campaign matrix through strong, positive engagement with the Climate Change team, commissioning market research, developing messages, designing a range of effective communications tools, reviewing materials for effectiveness and consistency, and contributing to team planning and strategy sessions.
● Work collaboratively with ACF’s Campaign and Marketing staff to develop and implement joint strategies which meet shared organisational objectives.
● Develop and maintain relationships with journalists, producers and editors.
● Contribute to the administration, development and internal promotion of ACF’s visual resources collection.
● Work with ACF’s strategic partners to ensure that the communication goals of alliances and joint projects are achieved.
● Champion the adoption of consistent, tested messages and language and adherence to ACF’s branding guidelines.
● Lead and coordinate communications around major public events and speaking engagements.
● Perform other duties as directed, including providing cover for the Media Adviser on an occasional basis.

• A commitment to and understanding of ACF’s vision, values and philosophy and the communications opportunities of promoting these.
• Extensive communications experience as a public relations practitioner, communications/media adviser or journalist.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team and across the organisation.
• Excellent media contacts and an understanding of the needs of newspapers, radio and television, and effective web communication.
• Excellent oral and written communications skills with the ability to 'translate' complex information into appealing messages and stories.
• Demonstrable strategic and organisational skills in the implementation of public relations, media strategies and events.
• Demonstrable networking experience with media, government, business and community leaders.
• Ability to develop creative PR and media strategies.
• Ability to work quickly and effectively under pressure and to meet deadlines.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications would be an advantage.

Location: This temporary position is based in ACF’s Melbourne office in the award-winning 60L Green Building.
Salary: Level 5.
