Environmental Manager - University of Newcastle

About the role

The Environmental Manager is a key member of the Campus and Asset Planning team which sits within the Infrastructure and Facilities Services unit of the Resources Division. This role will work collaboratively with business units across all campuses to act as the interface between the natural and built environment of the UON.

Key responsibilities include:

• developing strategies to create a low carbon estate by the integration of sustainability best practice in building design, construction and refurbishments;
• managing and implementing environmental projects relating to priority areas of the Environmental Sustainability Plan 2015-17;
• managing UON's bush regeneration and wetland services;
• providing expert advice and managing environmental compliance issues; and
• liaising with contractors to ensure projects are delivered on time and to budget.

Key skills and experience

• a proven track record of effective project management, leadership and organisational skills;
• substantial experience in the analysis of complex environmental sustainability issues and problems, developing feasible solutions and designing and managing the delivery of multiple concurrent complex projects;
• demonstrated ability to assess the impacts of the operations and activities of a large and complex organisation from waste, water, energy, transport and supply chains on the organisation’s carbon footprint; and
• demonstrated Knowledge and understanding of environmental legislation, standards and codes of practice that are applicable to a large and complex organisation.

HEW Level 8 - $89,395 - $104,293 per annum, plus a generous employer superannuation contribution of 17%.
