The Nature Conservation Council of NSW (NCC) is the peak conservation group for NSW, representing 130 community environment groups across the state. We are seeking a collaborative and experienced Marine Campaigner to lead our advocacy work to protect our marine life.

The purpose of the position is to:
1.Play a central role in the conservation sector’s campaign to restore protection to all marine sanctuaries in state and Commonwealth waters;
2.Build public and political support to establish a Sydney Marine Park.

Key functions
•Maintain a strategic overview of the NSW marine sanctuaries campaign;
•Coordinate the maintenance and implementation of NCC’s campaign plan;
•Assist and facilitate the contribution of other sectors and individuals to the campaign.

Key responsibilities
•Coordinate the NSW marine sanctuaries campaign.
•Be an ambassador for the NSW marine sanctuaries campaign within the conservation sector in order to strategically maximise involvement and effectiveness of other organisations and individuals in the campaign;
•Develop and maintain strategic partnerships to grow the diversity and power of stakeholders supporting the campaign’s aims, including assisting stakeholders to undertake effective lobbying and public activities as required;
•Implement on-ground community outreach activities as determined in the campaign plan;
•Coordinate a highly visible online campaign which effectively activates and builds on existing online networks in support of the campaign;
•Work with the Convenor of the NSW Marine Working Group to ensure good communication and coordination among groups contributing to the marine campaign;
•Work with other NCC staff to identify possible future sources of funding for the campaign;
•Undertake agency, political and media liaison as well as other associated matters as required in the campaign plan.
•Proactively contribute to activities within NCC which assist to build organisational profile and capacity.

Selection Criteria

Applicants must have a legal right to work in Australia. Applicants must address both the essential and desirable selection criteria in their application:

•Demonstrated ability to plan and implement successful advocacy campaigns.
•A track record of campaign success.
•Commitment to the conservation of nature and the principles of ecological sustainability.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience developing successful communication strategies (including proficiency in doing media and conducting digital campaigning).
•Demonstrated ability to build relationships and drive outcomes with a range of partners and stakeholders.
•Willingness to work flexible hours and undertake travel.
•Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of tools.

•Knowledge and experience of NSW marine conservation issues.
•Demonstrated ability to identify and secure campaign funding.
•Established relationships with policy makers and/or environmental campaigners in NSW.
