Marrickville's Household Chemical Cleanout and e-Waste Drop Off Day

Put it in the diary - Marrickville Council’s next free Household Chemical Cleanout and e-Waste Drop Off Day is on Saturday 9 May 2015, 9am–3.30pm.

The day is one of Sydney’s oldest and most popular chemical and electronic waste collection services. At the last chemical and e-waste day in February, over 1,200 residents dropped off approximately 40 tonnes of e-waste and chemicals.

All waste is recycled and diverted from landfill free of charge. Recycling of chemicals is funded by the Environmental Protection Authority and e-waste recycling is provided of Apple.
The drop off day is at Council’s Works Depot 15-17 Unwins Bridge Road St Peters (entry via Bolton Street) and exit via Unwins Bridge Road as a left hand turn only. Residents are advised to avoid the morning queues and drop off after lunch.

For further information including a complete list of materials that can be dropped off, go to www.marrickville.nsw.gov.au or call Council’s Citizens’ Service Centre on 9335 2222.

And Council has been successful in securing a $248,933 grant the NSW Environmental Trust to build and operate a community drop-off centre for ‘core problem waste’ - high volume, low toxicity household materials including paint, oils, batteries, gas bottles, smoke detectors and fluorescent lamps.

The EPA will cover the collection and disposal costs associated with all of the material collected through the facility until the end of 2017.

The centre will be open 16 hours per week, at Council’s St Peters Depot.
The facility will be fully operational by June 2016.

This project is supported by the Environmental Trust as part of the NSW EPA’s Waste Less, Recycle More initiative, funded from the waste levy.
